Petoskey, Mich. – June 11, 2007 – Over the weekend, ICTNS upgraded their mail services in effort to reduce spam e-mails as well as introducing a powerful new feature:
Sync with Microsoft Outlook
Webmail can now synchronize your contacts, appointments, tasks and notes with Microsoft Outlook. SmarterMail Sync must be downloaded to activate the synchronization.
To download:
- Log into your webmail account at http://webmail.ictns.com
- Go to Settings > SmarterMail Sync
- Click download on the type of client that you have
- When prompted click run and install the software
- Once the software is installed, open Outlook and setup your SmaterMail Sync by selecting SmarterMail Sync > Account Settings from the Outlook toolbar
Additional Spam Blocking Using “Greylisting”
How it works:
The first email that is received by our email server from any email address is initially rejected. The senders email server then attempts to resend the message. After 15 minutes of the initial attempt our email server accepts the email from the sender’s mail server. The next time the same sender sends you an email, the message is not delayed and is delivered to your inbox. If you do not receive an email from the same sender within 36 days the next email they send you will go through the greylisting process again. This method is highly effective in reducing the amount of spam that you receive. Most spam based attacks will not go through this process of retrying and therefore you will not receive the spam.
We have turned greylisting on by default. You can turn it off for your email account if you prefer by:
- Log into your webmail account at http://webmail.ictns.com
- Go to Settings > My Settings
- Click Bypass Greylisting
- Click “Save”
